Three women set out on the road to rehab in Ann Hui's incisive look at Hong Kong's drug problem. After elderly drug user Mrs Choi (Huang Man) checks herself into a treatment center, her hooked daughter Fong (Carol Cheng) is aided by a social worker (Gigi Wong). Meanwhile, hostess Siu Lai (Idy Chan) realises she too must go clean. The counselor agrees when it comes to the evils of narcotics, yet Hui's tale of people on society's fringe is never shrill, and its sympathetic portrayals of the three women show dignity and steer clear of caricature.
