Born in 1974, Kang Hyung-chul studied film at Yongin University and made numerous short films before embarking on his feature debut. After writing the initial draft for Scandal Makers the project was passed over by many producers over a period of 3 years, during which time he revised the script over 100 times. The film would eventually become the best-selling release of 2008, with 8.3 million admissions. Three years later, he repeated the feat with his second feature Sunny, which sold 7.4 million tickets.
