Sato Shinsuke
After finding success as a scriptwriter, Sato Shinsuke (b. 1970) made his directorial debut with Love Song in 2001. Starting with The Princess Blade, Sato carved out a reputation as an action director. After his first major commercial hit with the 2010 Sand Clock, he directed Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror, a CGI animation which won accolades, but disappointed at the box office, the hit SF thriller Gantz (2010) and Gantz Perfect Answer (2011). In the current decade Sato has continued to turn out action hits, including I Am a Hero, a manga adaptation about humans struggling to survive a zombie holocaust.
