Here at last - the names of the three jury members and the 13 films in competition!
New writers, new directors and, of course, a new jury: FEFF is a journey, and the
section of the Far East Film Festival dedicated to first time director represents a journey inside the journey. And the figure is a truly impressive one: 13 of the 38 films in competition - out of 46 titles overall - are debuts. A real live incubator of the Asian filmmakers of the future who have gone all-out to get to Udine and who Udine has gone all-out to enlist.
This year, the traditional Audience Awards for the best film, the Golden Mulberry awarded by the public and the Black Mulberry awarded by Shogun pass holders (the Internet equivalent of the good old Black Dragon passes!) will be joined by the
White Mulberry, awarded by three jurors. Three 'dreamers' - one from New York, one from Rome and one from London - who have generously and courageously decided to take part in the digital revolution of FEFF 22! So let's make their acquaintance...
La Frances Hui is Associate Curator at the Department of Film at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, which she joined in 2015. At MoMA she has organized retrospectives on directors Lee Chang-dong, Andrey Zvyagintsev, Pedro Almodóvar, Tsai Ming-Liang, Lau Kar-leung, Tomu Uchida and on the directors of photography Mark Lee Ping-Bing and Mahmoud Kalari. She has also curated seasons on Latin American and Filipino cinema. Since 2016 Hui has been a member of the selection committee for the New Directors / New Films festival, organized by MoMA and by Film at Lincoln Center, and is co-president of the 2020 edition of the festival.
Leopoldo Santovincenzo has been working for Italian state broadcaster Rai since the early 1990s, and since 2008 has been coordinating the editorial programming of Rai 4 (for which he also created the magazine show Wonderland). He is the author and director of numerous television productions including Felliniana and Heimat, The Time machine of Edgar Reitz, Pasolini 1975, and Federico and the Spirits. His essays have been published in Guide to Noir Literature (2019), The Shakespeare Cure (2016), and Rewrites: Translation in the Arts and Literature (2013), Stories of Italian Cinema (2005-2007), and the Critical Dictionary of Films (Treccani Encyclopedia/Cineteca di Bologna, 2002-2003).
Mark Adams is a writer and film festival consultant who from 2015 to 2019 was artistic director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival. For four years he was head film critic and editor for the film magazine Screen International and film critic for Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Moving Pictures International. He still writes occasionally about cinema in the British press and has worked extensively in the film industry. He was also director of the Cinema sector at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London and was previously responsible for programming at the prestigious National Film Theatre, also in London, for six years.
