Aflamboyant B-movie with a distinctive Feuillade-like style. An ersatz Dr. Frankenstein looks for the magic formula of eternal youth by manipulating innocent victims, with the aid of two terrifying gorillas. There are surprises at every turn, and a joyous freedom of invention. It's too bad that so few silent entertainments (madly)
made in Shanghai survive - and are in such bad condition - as they are so different from the majority of (left- wing) movies that still exist from the period.
