KOCCA on Screen

KOCCA ON SCREEN
29 - 30 April 2026
Cinema Visionario
via Asquini 33, Udine

K for Korea, K for KOCCA: among this year’s brand-new highlights, the partnership between the Udine festival and the South Korean government agency certainly stands out. A true creative hub—as reflected in the name behind the acronym (Korea Creative Content Agency)—it operates on the front lines of developing, promoting, and distributing a wide range of audiovisual content.

On April 29 and 30, Udine will host the special project “KOCCA on Screen”: two days dedicated to documentaries (4 titles) and television series (3 series). The headquarters will be at Cinema Visionario (Via Asquini 33, Udine). Italy will have the chance to explore new Korean productions up close, while Korea will be able to reflect in real time on feedback from Italian audiences. At the Visionario, both general viewers and industry professionals holding one of the festival badges will have free access. English subtitles only.

HOW TO ACCESS
Access to screenings in the “KOCCA on Screen” program is granted exclusively to those holding a Festival or Focus Asia accreditation.

Synopsis
Shin Yirang had dreamed of becoming a lawyer since childhood, driven less by ideals of justice than by a desire to give his family a better life. However, because his father died under the stigma of being a corrupt prosecutor, no law firm would hire him. In the end, he opens his own small office. But the place once belonged to a shaman who summoned spirits, and there Yirang begins encountering wandering ghosts who have lost their memories.
The ghosts want to know who they were and why they died, but the shaman who could have helped them is long gone. Though Yirang initially finds them annoying, he cannot ignore their tragic stories. Realizing that knowing a ghost’s name and age can reveal their identity, he begins helping them uncover their past and resolve the grudges that bind them to this world. In the process, he experiences “possession,” where ghosts temporarily inhabit his body, granting him different abilities that help him solve cases.
Meanwhile, Han Nahyun, a cold and undefeated lawyer with a 100% win rate, has been living in place of her older sister ever since her sister died years ago. When she meets Yirang, she initially suspects him of being a fraud. However, after encountering the spirit of her deceased sister, she learns the truth and eventually joins Yirang in helping restless spirits find peace.
Then Yirang discovers that his father’s death—long believed to have been caused by a drug overdose twenty years earlier—was actually a murder. With most of the evidence long gone, he begins a difficult fight to prove his father’s innocence.

A documentary following Jeong-geun, a pastor and former perpetrator of civilian massacres during the Vietnam War, as he confronts a lifetime of buried guilt and sets out to confess the truth before time runs out.

Synopsis
For forty years, Jeong-geun has lived as a devoted pastor. But long before that, he was a man who killed innocent people. His former comrades still call those killings acts of patriotism, yet he knows they were part of a horrific massacre.
The setting was the Vietnam War, which South Korea entered in 1965. The war claimed countless lives, and not all of them were soldiers. Deep in the jungle, Korean troops repeatedly massacred civilians. Jeong-geun was one of the perpetrators. Now, before age and time further erode his memory, he has made a decision: to speak the truth. Before his fading recollections are irreversibly altered, he sets out to record what happened and confess to the world what he once took part in.
A man who has lived as a soldier, a killer, and a pastor—why did he take part in the slaughter of innocent people? Why does he choose to speak now, after a lifetime of silence? And will he be able to hold on to the truth until the very end?

He lost his fingers. He defied death. He returned to the wall.
Eighteen years after a miraculous survival on Cholatse, veteran climber Park Jeong-heon confronts his deepest trauma and aging body to redefine the "end" of life through one final, soul-searching ascent.

Synopsis
"Leave me behind, brother." The junior cried in despair. The senior pulled him up. The snow began to fall. In the winter of 2005, the triumph of conquering the North Wall of Cholatse turned into a nightmare in an instant. To save his partner Choi Kang-sik from a deep crevasse, Park Jeong-heon pulled the rope despite his shattered ribs. Over the next six days, they crawled through the "Death Zone" with rotting limbs from severe frostbite, refusing to let go of each other until they miraculously touched solid ground again.
Retirement age has arrived. The body is no longer in its prime. Yet the spirit remains unyielding. Eighteen years later in 2023, Park Jeong-heon returns to the shadow of Cholatse. Haunted by the question, "Is the real end simply hanging onto life without a challenge?" he steps back onto the icy face that took his fingers but forged his soul, seeking a final reconciliation with the mountain.
The camera reflects the past. The present climbs the wall. Two eras become one. By interweaving the harrowing survival footage of 2005 with the meditative expedition of 2023, "Snow Face" follows a veteran alpinist facing his deepest trauma head-on. This documentary is a profound meditation on brotherhood, the weight of memory, and the indomitable human will that dares to define its own "end".

It captures the bizarre camouflage, fierce survival of extraordinary sea creatures, and the urgent climate crisis facing the "Amazon of the Sea."

Synopsis

The Coral Triangle, known as the "Amazon of the Sea," boasts the highest marine biodiversity on Earth. Armed with an 8K camera, 30-year veteran underwater cinematographer Kim Dong-sik returns to this marine sanctuary after 20 years. Deep within the black sands of the Lembeh Strait, he encounters a world of oddities: the mimic octopus capable of 40 different disguises, the frogfish with a built-in fishing rod, and the highly venomous blue-ringed octopus.
These bizarre creatures employ extraordinary camouflage and seductive tactics to survive in a ruthless environment.
However, this beautiful underwater paradise is facing a severe crisis. Rising sea temperatures have triggered devastating coral bleaching, and ocean pollution is rapidly destroying the foundation of marine life.
Featuring spectacular cinematography, the film not only reveals the fierce and mesmerizing survival strategies of unique marine life but also delivers an urgent plea to humanity to protect and restore this fragile ecosystem before it is too late.
