Famous at the time for being one of the first "feminist" Korean movies, The Blue in You provides a splendid showcase for its lead actress, Kang Soo-yeon, here teamed with the industry's biggest male star, Ahn Sung-ki. Released at the very end of 1992, it was the third biggest Korean movie of 1993. Kang plays businesswoman Yu-rim, who has a strong-minded approach to both her career and her love life. When she meets photographer Ho-seok (Ahn), who is an equally uncompromising character, sparks fly; but even though their viewpoints differ on almost every aspect of life, they can't seem to stay apart from each other. Ho-seok finally goes to Italy to study - but Yu-rim finds she can't get him out of her mind... The movie is basically a series of scenes in which both stars play off against each other in a series of glamorous settings. The film boasts first-class production design, which makes evocative use of colour, costumes and glossy cinematography to create a "mood" which parallels the emotional goings-on between the two protagonists on screen. (The italian scenes were filmed in the Florence region. The "blue" in the title also means a sense of loneliness and alienation.)
