The Maid is one of the required characters that appear in every Thai television series, the most popular form of culture in Thailand today. Though most of the maids are not considered as “majors,” they are still the colour of the show. They are normally the helpers for protagonists or antagonists, sometimes fighting one another to protect their bosses. For the first time being, maid is put into the highlight for a big screen. Four maids, Waew, Jim, Cut, Aey, are contacted by a secret police agent to spy on their bosses on corruption suspicion. While they try to keep the secret and do their best for this mission, with sweepers and dustpans, they encounter several problems, from working conflicts with other maids, to sexual harassment by male bosses, and this espionage obligation.
M.A.I.D. is the third work of acclaimed director Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, after his international achievement in the gay basketballer The Iron Ladies I and II. Hilarious and funny, M.A.I.D. still presents the director’s full sense of humour that has already shown out in The Iron Ladies sequel. This time, it is involved with a must of almost everyday life’s in Thai upper-middle-class families. Like in his two earlier works, Yongyoot still shows his excellent part in directing the superb acting and comic scripts. Most of the characters are starred by supporting performers except Pornchita Na Songkha (Waew) and Somchai Sakdikul (secret police agent). Pornchita is the country’s most popular television star who can beat whatever roles are given to her - from a problem young girl who fights again her own father, a Thai woman who internally fights between the cause of nationalism and personal love, to an evil ghost who can not get rid of her own sin. M.A.I.D. is her silver screen’s acting debut, and the first time to star as a maid, and an explicit comic role. In the movie, Waew comes from the northeastern region and Pornchita had to practice the northeastern dialect. Local audiences almost forget that this was their favorite star who mostly take more serious roles than the light one of a maid. Other minor characters, especially other maids, all did the superb acting in their parts. And then you almost forget some weak parts of the script!
