Akkaraphol (Mitr Chaibancha), a nephew of millionaire Hiranphokij returns to Thailand after graduating in entertainment management from England. But instead of pursuing a career in show business, his uncle puts him in charge of his loan shark business. While on his way to collect from the poor in a slum, Akkaraphol discovers a talented amateur band called Aram Boy (Temple Boy). He decides to leave his uncle to set up the band and run a nightclub with help from Kingkaew (Petchara Chaowaraj), a slum girl with whom he falls in love. But his uncle is displeased and hires a gangster to thwart his nephew’s ambitions. A phenomenon and a phenomenal work in Thai cinema, Money Money Money featured all of the country’s famous acting and singing stars. Unsurprisingly, it also broke all box office records at that time. The two leads, Mitr Chaibancha and Petchara Chaowaraj were the great star duo of the 1950s and remain the most popular to date. Supporting roles were taken by leading singers such as Charin Nantanakorn (the poor composer), Sumalee Thonglong (Akkaraphol’s sister), and Suthep Wongkamhaeng (the temple caretaker). Directed by the best director of the 1950s, from one the finest filmmaking clans in Thai cinema history, Money, Money, Money is an all time Thai classic. Prince Anusorn Mongkolkarn is the father of Prince Chatreechalerm Yukol, one of the leading Thai directors of the 1970s to the present (The Legend of Suryothai) . Money Money Money is practically unique in the Thai musical with an urban realism and some dance scenes included with its song numbers.
