Who Are You?

Based on the Japanese hikikomori - a phenomenon of reclusive people who have chosen to withdraw from social life, and isolate themselves from society in their homes for a long period - exceeding six months, Who Are You? is the latest Thai horror with tight pace, well-crafted script, and good acting.
A mother Nida lives with her teenage son Ton who isolates himself in his room for several years. He never leaves the room, or directly speaks to her. Every morning she merely prepares a meal for him and places it in front of his room, and then goes to work. She is the only one who speaks to him while he sometimes communicates with her, only through a piece of paper. She never feels it strange until several people are involved. A television program reporter sees it the bestselling scoop for his television program. At the same time, a girl at the opposite house, who locks herself in the room due to the allergy, is also curious to know why her childhood friend Ton tightly hides himself in the room with no single holes to the outside world. A taxi motorcyclist also breaks into the room to seem what is inside. Ton's father also tries to convince his ex-wife to confront the truth. But do they really prepare themselves for the truth they are about to encounter?
Director Pakphum Wongjinda proves himself to be a growing director if he has a good script in hand and professional team in work. In Who Are You? - which is Pakphum’s best film so far, he is lucky enough to get one of the best actresses in Thailand - Sinjai Hongthai, to take the role of mother, as well as, to work with one of a few best thriller writer Eakasit Thairaat (one of the co-writer for13 Beloved; and Body). Veteran actress Sinjai knows how to place her hard role as a mother who devotes to her son, and a lively saleslady for pirate discs. At the same time, co-writer Eakasith proves himself to be the king of horror and thriller, with sensible and logical story and development, and then the overuse of logics in the movie can be forgiven. Cinematography was also under the hands of Tiwa Maytaysong, the national awardwinners of several films. Pakphum also knows where to emphasize, when to cut the pace, and which part he should focus. Despite his young age, he also does not let himself to be under anybody’s influence.
