White Mulberry Award

Last year, on the FEFF’s 20th anniversary, a new award was established: the White Mulberry, which would recognise the best first or second film in the official selection. For the first time in the history of the Udine festival, a jury of professionals chose 2018’s winner, deciding on Korean film Last Child, Shin Dong-seok’s directorial debut.

On the occasion of its 21st edition, the FEFF decided to repeat the experience, inviting three professionals from three different continents to form a new jury which this time would evaluate all of the debut films in the new selection.

Made up of Freddy Bozzo, vice president of the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and profound connoisseur of genre cinema, Giovanna Fulvi, expert in Asian cinema and programmer of and collaborator with various international festivals including the Toronto Film Festival, and Mattie Do, director and producer from Laos who the FEFF had already honored by screening her movie Dearest Sister in 2016, the new jury will meet in Udine to watch on the big screen, together with the public, fourteen first films, including four from South Korea – the country with the most movies in competition – three from China, two each from Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan and one from Hong Kong.
